8 1 And Jesus was going about from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God; and the twelve were with him, 2 And also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who were ministering (Author's note: this word is Greek diakonos, from which the word "deacon" comes) to their support out of their personal funds. 10 38 Now as they were traveling along, Jesus entered a certain village; and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who moreover was listening to the Lord's word, seated at his feet. 40 But Martha was distracted with all of her preparations; and she came up to Jesus and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving? (Author's note: "serving" is Greek diakonos, from which the word "deacon" comes) Then tell her to help me." 41 But Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha! Martha! You are anxious and disturbed about so many things! 42 But actually only one thing is really necessary, and Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her!" |
